GDYNIA, POLAND-(7-8-2003) The third day of Idea Gdynia Sailing Days is behind us. The weather in
Gdynia today was a little bit worse than yesterday. Tomorrow, the Organizers
invite everyone for a great fireworks show.
Blue sky during the first two days and today, at noon, it got cloudy. Around
3 p.m., when the competitors were coming back to Marina a light rain began
to fall.
- The wind was blowing from 8 to 16 knots and it was changing constantly.
Sailors had a lot of difficulties during races in all classes - Andrzej
Reyman (chief of the jury) commented weather conditions.
- Mateusz Kusznierewicz, European vice-Champion, apparently is trying to
become the Polish Champion 10th time in his carrier and 9th in a row. Today
he was the second one in two races and won only one race. However, he is
still 3 points above Wacław Szykiel.
As far as 49er class is concerned, the leading ones in general
classification are still Marcin Czajkowski and Krzysztof Kierkowski (YKP
Gdynia). The team won two races out of three, and now has the upper hand
with 3 points over their rivals Paweł Kacprowski and Paweł Kuźmicki.
In 470 class (general classification), sailors from Gdynia: Rafał Sawicki
and Paweł Nowakowski are coming back on the top. After the races today they
are 6 points above Sergey Bartahsevich and Igor Petrowicz (Belarus).
- We'll keep our position till the end - Poles assure.
In Mistral class, among men, Piotr Myszka won all the races today and gained
up to 6 points. That makes him leading over Oberemko (ISAF ranking leader
from Ukraine). Among women, on the other hand, the one who is leading after
the races today is Agata Brygoła. She takes control over Olga Maslivets
(Ukraine), who was leading till yesterday. Now, Agata Brygoła is leading
with 6 points in general classification.
In Tornado class (Idea race area), the team from Gdynia: Adam Skomski, Marek
Gałkiewicz were placed first in IGSD general classification, thanks to one
race. Tornado class finishes the regatta tomorrow
In Europe class (Skoda race area), the leader after the races today is
Weronika Glinkiewicz. Tatiana Drozdowskaja from (Belarus) is just behind
her.
Offshore yachts competing in IMS 2 class have had five short races so far.
Today they have started a long distance race for over 100 sea miles. The
winner is expected on Friday morning (tomorrow). In the short distance races
the leading one was Stanisław Justyński (YK Elbląg) on 'Bezan'.
Tomorrow, according to Idea Gdynia Sailing Days schedule, there are to be
held regatta in the following classes: 730, FD (Flying Dutchman) and Radio
Controlled Yachts Regatta in Marblehead class.
Tomorrow (Friday), the Organizers of IGSD invite everyone to a special
fireworks show, which is going to take place on water. You can watch the
fireworks from the Boulevard ashore as well as Kamienna Góra. The show
starts at 10 p.m. The sponsor of the fireworks show is PTK Centertel - Idea
